A lot of people are treading water right now. They feel like they are getting hit by wave after wave of bad news. As easy as it is to convince ourselves that treading water, or worse yet, retreating to the shoreline is the best option, I challenge you to dig a little deeper, channel your inner surfer, and punch through the breakers!
We all have little things that keep us from digging in and committing right now. It could be fear, being sensitive to the struggle of others, or not knowing what to do next. It’s ok if you needed to take a week to binge on Netflix or find a way to escape the reality of what was going on around you. Or if you’re a “Control Enthusiast” like me you updated Worldometer every hour to try and comprehend the enormity of the situation. Whichever method of distraction you took, the fact remains that you need to do SOMETHING!
Here are a few things you can do right now to stay on top of the water.
Assessing:
Take a minute to evaluate your situation.
- How does this situation, directly and indirectly, affect you?
- Have you been asked to shut down?
- Are there ways to offer your product/service online?
- Are there other things you can ADD to your business to sell online?
Planning:
Now that you know where you are, where do you want to be?
- What are the barriers?
- How can you pivot?
- How fast can you implement the needed changes?
- What resources are available to help you?
Action!
You know where you are, where you want to be, and now is the time to punch through that wave! New plans are scary. But you know what? Not every business is going to make it through this. There will be some who decide it’s easier and safer to swim back to shore. The businesses that not only make it through these waves and thrive are the ones that will be in the best position to meet the next wave of challenge head-on!
The businesses that will be here a year from now are the ones doing MORE right now, not doing LESS!
If you’re stuck right now please reach out for help! There are a lot of resources available for small businesses. KC Source Link is a great one to try. I’m also here if you need me! I’m happy to jump on Zoom and we can brainstorm ideas to help you pivot. Plus, you can see me yell at my dogs to stop barking at birds.
