We are seeing this EVERYWHERE right now! You made your annual plan and now Corona has upended everything. Now what?
It’s time to shift!
Shifts happens! Business, big and small should be revisiting their mission and vision statements. Yes, you already have big goals and a vision for where you want your business to go. But when business shifts and you don’t shift with it, you can start to feel stuck.
We write a Vision Statement because it defines where we are going as a company. This is your core purpose and what you are working towards. Think of it as the destination on your company road map or your very own “North Star” to help guide your company in its decision making. Having a clear vision in mind helps your company make decisions that align with its philosophy and declared set of goals. It makes sure your company stays on course and is a great way to rally around common goals and shared values as a company.
Your mission is your plan for how you plan to achieve your vision. If your vision is the destination on your map, then your mission is the directions. It tells your customers how you plan to get there. A great Mission Statement should be inspiring, show how you solve an unmet need, leverage your unique skills, and be memorable. Often the reason you went into business in the first place isn’t the same as what you are called to do now. And that’s okay! Similarly, your vision statement might also change as you shift to explore new ideas and goals.
When you feel a shift in your business and your goals, take notice and make the needed changes.
What if I don’t have them?
If you don’t have a Mission or Vision Statement then now is the perfect time to get started. Here is a FREE downloadable Mission Statement Worksheet and here is a FREE downloadable Vision Statement Worksheet to help you get your thoughts on paper.
I’m ready to make a shift!
Great! It’s time to revisit your mission and vision and make the changes that will help you continue to grow. As you review, involve your key team members to ensure you’re truly living up to your ideals. If something feels off, identify why. Is it because you’re off-target or because your mission and vision no longer represent your new goals?
After you make a shift
Update your website to reflect your new mission and vision. Revisit your key messages and published content to ensure it speaks to your new direction. Take this as an opportunity to clean up your blog posts and videos, archiving or tweaking anything that no longer fits with your new business direction.
Revisiting and revising your mission and vision will give you the clarity to meet your new big goals and is well worth the time it takes to do it!
